Store brought Vapor rub was a staple around my house however that quickly changed once I was informed that it contained petroleum and lets face it no-one wants to put something meant for a car engine on there childs skin.. 

Due to the very little Cold and cough treatments available for babies and kids, vapor rub is invaluable for soothing the coughing and congestion that can really interfere with everyone’s ability to get a good night’s sleep. 

Baby & Child Chest Rub contains Peppermint, Eucalyptus & Lavender Oils traditionally used in herbal medicine to relieve coughs and the symptoms of colds. These ingredients act as topical expectorants and decongestants for the relief of the symptoms.


Peppermint oil 30mg, Eucalyptus oil 30mg, Lavender oil 10mg, Beeswax, Shea Butter, Theobroma oil, Sunflower oil.


Apply a small amount onto the chest, neck or back and gently rub into the skin to help soothe and comfort. If cough and cold symptoms persist, see your healthcare professional.


The common Cold in a benign viral infection of the Upper Respiratory Tract. 

  • Symptoms are a sore throat, nasal congestion, sneezing and mild fever.
  • Recovery usually occurs 7-10 days after onset.


The flu is a more sever respiratory infection, caused by the influenza virus.

  • Symptoms are similar to the common cold however more severe and include high fever, malaise and muscle pain. Bed rest is usually always required.
  • Recovery usually occurs 1-2 weeks after onset. However can last longer if the person develops complications most common in the elderly or immunocompromised.
Homemade Baby Vapor Rub
4 teaspoons grated beeswax
3 tablespoons cocoa, shea or mango butter
7 tablespoons coconut oil
30 drops high quality essential oils
(10 drops eucalyptus smithii, 10 drops tea tree, 5 drops lavender, 5 drops chamomile*)
Please note that lavender and chamomile are generally considered safe for babies under two months, eucalyptus can be introduced at two months and tea tree can be introduced after 6 months. Essential oils are very potent so use sparingly!
-Boil water in a pot, with bowl placed on top (don’t let water touch the bottom of the bowl) and melt the grated beeswax in the bowl.

-Add cocoa butter and let melt.
-Remove from heat.
-Whisk in coconut oil and essential oils.
-Pour into container, I used a small glass jar I repurposed from a face mask.
-Store at room temperature for up to 1 year.
